To be honest, I’m actually not sure what the title of this book is. My library lists it as “The Science of Baking,” but the cover of the book gives “Ada Twist, Scientist The Why Files” in a larger font. Perhaps the whole thing is the title: Ada Twist, Scientist The Why Files The Science of Baking.

As the first term on the cover (Ada Twist) indicates, this comes from author Andrea Beaty, author of the Ada Twist, Scientist series. I’m a big fan of the original series. I’ve read and enjoyed several books in the series. I’ve even gone to see a live touring stage performance. So, Ada Twist in general, good stuff: creative, supportive, and fun.

This book…only okay. The images are not as engaging or original, and the prose is…functional. It is not as creative as the Ada Twist books. It is what it is: an explanation of how baking works, and some of the science involved, for kids. There are also some useful bit of history.

Not bad. Not nearly as fun as the other books in the series.
