Yesterday I took part in a webinar with Ernesto Cisneros hosted by SCBWI Socal (the Southern California regional group of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators).

It was a useful and occasionally amusing webinar. Cisneros was quite generous with his time and energy, taking question after question, and the webinar was free. If you’re interested in writing children’s books, or even in just getting an insider view into the art, craft, and business of children’s books, I can’t suggest SCBWI strongly enough.

Cisneros focused his talk on writing and his path, and SCBWI was central to that path.

I will say this: because Cisneros has won the Pura Belpré Medal and 6 International Latino Book Awards, I expected more of his talk to focus on LatinX culture and/or his particular challenges as a LatinX writer, but that only came up a couple of times.
