I picked up Where’s Jack? (2025) out of genuine curiosity: what would a picture book built around Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas be like?

The answer to this was complicated by the phrase in the upper right corner: “Look and Find.” This is not a story book, but a look and find book, where readers search for specific images in a series of larger, more complex images that are busy with interesting and distracting details. In this case, readers look for Jack Skellington, but also other characters like Sally (and those less familiar with the film’s world might not know, like Lock, Shock, and Barrel).

This is arranged as a number of two-page spreads, each jammed full of details, and text block in the upper left that sets the scene and sets the task for readers. The images are colorful, and the presentation professional–this is Disney, after all–but will mainly appeal to two (possibly intersecting) audiences: kids who like look and find books, and kids who like Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Otherwise, this is largely undistinguished. A media tie-in.
