Today I read Scamp (2025) by Anden Wilder.
Scamp is a picture book about a house with two cats…only one of them is the little girl who loves her cat Hector, spends all her time with Hector, and acts in all ways like a cat. Until the time when she doesn’t.
To be honest, the story in this book is slight: there’s no stress or challenge, and things happen very easily.
On the other hand, the illustrations capture the fluid and twisting movements of the cat, and Scamp and Hector’s intertwining interactions will really speak to anyone who is or was a cat person. Like me.
