I picked up Animals in Underwear as part of my ongoing exploration of Todd Parr’s work, and I’m glad I did. This 2024 board book is fun, with a light trace of instruction. It is, as the title indicates, a book about animals wearing underwear. There’s no explanation–no story or reason why the critters wear the underwear–but the images are a lot of fun. Parr’s distinctive style really works for this kind of book: bright, crude images, a background of a different unrelated contrasting color, and a few words and letters per page. The letters are because this is an alphabet book showing, as the first page proclaims, “Animals, animals everywhere–from A to z in their underwear!”
This book is an almost perfect example of its type. My only quibble is showing an “Extra-large pig” for X. There are X creatures!

Otherwise, bright colorful fun.
