All my friends are dead. How’s that for a title!
It is the title, though of a 2010 book by Avery Monsen and Jory John. I recently discussed The Good, The Bad, and the Spooky , and got curious about other works. Monsen has written (or contributed to) a wide range of high profile works, such as Chester Van Chime Who Forgot How to Rhyme.
All of my friends are dead. is, strictly speaking, more picture book adjacent than traditional picture book. Both the topic (death) and the humor are aimed at an older audience, say, age 10 on up.
But what’s here is very fine indeed. It is a series of well-paced and humorous illustrated commentaries on death, isolation, and all things dark. Though the tone is different, it would pair well with Uncle Shelby’s ABZ Book: both use picture book elements to appeal to older readers.
